The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare had on November 28 sent a letter to the states ordering them to organize camps for making farmer identity cards for 6 crore farmers in 2024-25 financial year, 3 crore farmers in 2025-26 and 2 crore farmers. to be covered in 2026-27.
Kisan Pehachan Patra is an Aadhaar-linked digital identity, which is being linked to land records. It contains personal details of farmers, information on crops sown and information on land ownership. In this card, the information of the farmer’s land, cattle and crops sown by him is recorded
This card helps reduce the complexity of verification while applying for schemes like Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Kisan Credit Card.
A farmer register is generated from the farmer ID.
According to the report, the Ministry of Agriculture will create a “Farmer Registry” based on Farmer ID, which will be part of the Agri Stock under the Central Government’s Digital Agriculture Mission. The mission was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year.The central government provides a grant of up to Rs 15,000 for organizing each camp and an additional incentive of Rs 10 per farmer ID. This incentive will be provided from the budget of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme.
