Karnataka: PMAY-Gramin Housing Scheme Target Set at 4.76 Lakh Homes for 2024-25
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is one of the Central Government’s flagship initiatives aimed at achieving the goal of “Housing for All.” For the financial year 2024-25, Karnataka has been assigned a target of constructing 4.76 lakh houses. This forms a critical part of the Centre’s mission to provide homes for every citizen.
So far, the Central Government has approved 7.02 lakh houses for Karnataka, including those already in the implementation phase. The scheme will continue for the next five years, and Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has emphasized the importance of the State Government ensuring its successful implementation and utilizing the funds effectively.
While addressing the State’s leadership, Minister Chouhan reminded them of his earlier communication to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the Centre’s approval for the construction of 7,02,731 houses under PMAY-G. He also sought the State’s cooperation in achieving seamless execution.
Key Meetings and Discussions
Minister Chouhan, along with a delegation of Karnataka ministers, held a significant meeting to discuss the optimal use of funds provided by the Central Government for housing construction. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Agriculture Minister Cheluvarayaswamy, Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge, Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra, and senior officials participated in the discussions. Apart from housing, the dialogue also touched on issues in the agricultural sector and other priorities for the State.
Approval for Additional Houses
After the meeting, Minister Chouhan announced an increased target of 4,67,580 additional houses for Karnataka under PMAY-G. “The Prime Minister’s vision is to ensure a home for every underprivileged citizen. In September, we approved 2,57,246 houses for Karnataka and released funds for the same. Today, we have further increased the target to 4,67,580 houses. We have directed the State to expedite the construction process and fully utilize the funds already allocated,” he stated.
Development Under PM Modi’s Leadership
Minister Chouhan underscored the Central Government’s commitment to Karnataka’s development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Even when the State did not request funds, we proactively announced support. Substantial funds have already been disbursed, and the State Government must ensure their effective utilization,” he remarked.
This renewed focus on housing and rural development is expected to significantly benefit Karnataka’s underprivileged citizens, advancing the vision of inclusive development.
