The country’s farmers who have adopted modern farming practices have contributed 305 million tonnes of food production and 320 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables in 2020-21. 25 to 30 per cent of fruits and vegetables and 8 to 10 per cent of food grains are lost every year after harvesting, storage and before sale.

What all about PMFME scheme
The Prime Minister formalization of micro food processing enterprises (PMFME) project in collaboration with the central and state governments is being implemented for a period of 5 years from 2020-21 with a grant of 60:40 from the central and state governments.
Realizing that food processing plays a vital role in doubling farmers’ income, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earmarked Rs 10,000 crore for food processing over the next five years. A target of starting 2 lakh processing units has been set.
Accordingly, 493.5 crores have been allocated to the state and a target of establishing 10,784 units has been given.
The State Agricultural Products Processing and Export Corporation has appointed the Agriculture Department as the nodal department to implement this project in the state. (KAPPEC) has been officially designated as the Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI) Technical Institute of State Nodalaya Agency Mysore.
