The Central Government has decided to train 2 lakh technicians under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY).
DISCOMs have already trained 40,000 personnel under this scheme and an additional 2 lakh technicians will be trained in the next 8 months, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in a release.
Training for Engineers: More than 50,000 DISCOM engineers are also receiving specialized training to inspect and commission rooftop solar plants and provide net meters.
Priority has been given to the development of electricity vendors among Surya Ghar Yojana beneficiaries. About 9,000 sellers are active and more are being added every day, the Energy Ministry shared
PMSGMBY has taken a significant step towards achieving its ambitious goal. By March 2025, it has set a target of installing 10 lakh solar rooftops, and by 2027, it is aiming to achieve one crore units.
Installations of rooftop solar units are increasing tenfold every month since the project started. It is expected to cross 10 lakhs in three months. According to the Ministry of Renewable Energy, the target will be 20 lakh by October 2025, 40 lakh by March 2026 and 1 crore by March 2027.
Subsidy disbursed to 4 lakh customers By November 2024, more than ₹ 3,100 crore of subsidy money has been distributed to more than 4 lakh customers. An average of 67,000 families have received subsidy every month.
As the houses that have adopted the scheme are getting subsidy within 15 days, the applications are flowing in a considerable amount. Ministry of Energy has informed that already 28% of families are getting zero electricity bill.
Under Surya Ghar Yojana, Jan Samarth Portal has been launched for systems up to 3kW to encourage electricity sellers and to enable beneficiaries to opt for affordable financing.
How to Apply Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar?
Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana aspirants are allowed to apply directly and equally quickly on the website. You can now apply in five minutes at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
Applicants can also use the portal’s GIS feature to view their rooftop and plan rooftop solar system potential. Also, a loan at an interest rate of 7% can also be selected on this portal.
Details can be uploaded within minutes after installation. The portal will automatically inform the DISCOM for verification. Applicants can then claim the subsidy on the portal, the release said.
