The Karnataka government is preparing to implement significant changes in the payment process of the ambitious Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which was announced during the elections by the Congress party.
Until now, the funds were being disbursed by the State Secretariat through the Director of the Department of Women and Child Development.
However, moving forward, the funds will be transferred from the State Secretariat directly to the Taluk Panchayat. The Taluk Panchayat will then ensure the direct transfer of funds to the beneficiaries.
The Director of the Women and Child Development Department already bears substantial responsibilities. Managing the Gruha Lakshmi scheme has added to their workload. It is being said that this change is intended to reduce this burden.
Additionally, the state government has not made payments under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme for the past three months. Now, discussions are underway at the departmental level to modify the payment mechanism.
An official order regarding this change is expected to be issued once Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s health improves.
