Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on May 1, 2016. The aim of the scheme is to provide clean cooking fuel, specifically LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), to households below the poverty line. The use of traditional cooking methods, like burning wood or coal, leads to indoor air pollution, which has severe health impacts, particularly on women and children.
Objective
The objective of this scheme of the Government of India is to make cooking gas available to all the people of the country. The objective of the project is to remove wood stoves from the homes of the country’s poor and provide clean LPG-like fuels.
Where to Apply Free cylinder?
If you also want to get the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, first you need to visit the official website www.pmuy.gov.in. In this you will see the application forms. These should be downloaded in your desired language. You can also get this form from ELPG center.
After this, take a printout of the form and fill all the information. You have to submit the necessary documents along with the form at the nearest LPG center. After document verification you will get free gas connection. Anyone who is eligible in the country can apply for it.
Impact:
As of 2023, PMUY has provided over 9 crore LPG connections across India, significantly reducing health risks and promoting women’s empowerment. The initiative has played a key role in improving living standards and is considered a milestone in India’s clean energy efforts.
Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give one gas cylinder free of cost this Diwali. Their government has described it as a great Diwali gift for women. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that LPG cylinders will be provided free of cost to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana.
